What was known as Lloyds TSB bank has now been separated into two different banks, this was due to a ruling by the European Commission in 2009, the aim of the ruling is to increase competition and customer choice in the UK banking sector through the creation of a new bank. There are now separate branches, Lloyds bank and TSB bank both of these will be high street branches. TSB still remains under the Lloyds banking group until it is transferred to a new owner. Lloyds bank was founded in 1765, it was originally set up by two men. One of which was a button maker, John Taylor and the second man being an iron dealer, Sampson Lloyd II. They decided to set up a private banking business in the Dale End area of Birmingham. The first branch was opened in 1864 in Oldbury just west of Birmingham, the logo was the bee hive which represented hard work and industry. The black horse logo came into play in in 1677 when a goldsmith named Humphrey Stokes used it for his shops, he wasn’t just a goldsmith he was also an early day banker. His business became part of the Barnett, Hoares & Co. When Lloyds & co. took over this bank in 1884 it gained the horse as their symbol. In 1865 Lloyds & co became a joint stock company known as Lloyds banking company ltd. If you would like to contact Lloyds TSB please call the Lloyds TSB Telephone Number above. Lloyds became Lloyds TSB in 1995 when they first merged together, they have now parted in late 2013/ early 2014.
